Rapper 21 Savage confirmed to headline Spark 2019
The UIC Spark planning committee has revealed 21 Savage will take the stage this year with supporting acts Cuco, Skylight Cinema, and DJ Ceasedays.
Chicago, Aug. 22, 2019— The Center for Student Involvement at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) announced in an Instagram post this afternoon that rapper 21 Savage will be the headlining performer at Spark 2019.
21 Savage is an Atlanta-based musician best known for his hit songs “a lot” and “Bank Account.” His debut album, “Issa Album” went gold in 2017, and his sophomore studio album, “I Am > I Was” debuted at the top of the Billboard album chart in 2018.
The rapper was also featured on Post Malone’s song “Rockstar” that topped the Hot 100 charts for eight consecutive weeks in 2017.
“We are so excited to announce to the student body that we are bringing 21 Savage to campus,” said Monse Dominguez, a member of the Spark artist relations committee. “We have been keeping this a secret for a couple of months now, and I feel like students are going to be just as excited as we are to see 21 perform.”
The Spark committee works hard to curate a lineup that appeals to the diverse tastes of UIC undergraduates.
UIC Radio announced on their Instagram account last week that indie-pop singer, Cuco, will open for 21 Savage. Cuco will be the first-ever LatinX performer to play at Spark.
The winning band of UIC Radio’s Battle of the Bands Competition, Skylight Cinema, will also be taking the stage as a supporting act, as well as the winner of UIC Radio’s DJ Battle, DJ Ceasedays.
Dominguez also added, “we obviously cannot bring every single student’s favorite musician to Spark, but we do have other surprises in store to guarantee students will have a good time regardless of their preferred genre of music.”
